Negaunee Football kicks off Friday, August 30th

Hello, I’m Carl Leander Johnson, and I will be the proud new voice of the Negaunee Miners for this 2013 football season.  You may have listened to by brother Wayne R. Johnson over the past few years, and I am happy to be taking over for him.

The Miners kick off the 2013 season at home against the Manistique Emeralds this Friday night, August 30th, at 7pm. Pregame starts at 6:30pm on Sunny.FM.  As a former Negaunee Miner, and an avid Miner fan, I could not be more excited for the start of this football season!

The Miners are coming off of a 2012 season that included a 10-2 record, an MPC championship, and a playoff berth.  The Miners will have some key players to replace from last years’ team, including three-year starting quarterback Tanner Uren, running back Dustin Goupille, receiver Brock Weaver, defensive tackle Alex Dempsey, and linebacker Adam Francis,  all of which found themselves with All-UP honors last fall.

However, the Miners do have returning to them the dynamic Tyler LaJoie, who was instrumental in the success the Miners enjoyed in 2012.  The Miners will continue to come at opponents with a run-heavy, smash-mouth style offense that has become synonymous with Negaunee football.  LaJoie figures to be the work-horse for the Miners in the running game, but having fellow senior Austin Caya taking a few carries & leading the way for him on blocks will sure be a comforting sight for LaJoie.

While always a run-first team, don’t count on the Miners to forget the passing game completely.  Seniors Zane Radloff (WR), Jason Cook (WR), and Brandon Coron (TE)  are all returning and will add to a potentially dynamic Miners passing attack.  This coupled with a fantastic running game should lead to a successful season in the MPC for the Miners.

For those of you unable to come down to the field, be sure to tune in to Sunny.FM at 101.9 fm for all of your Negaunee Miner football action.
