Marquette City police are reporting a homicide in the City of Detroit involving a resident of Marquette.  Marquette Police were contacted last Thursday by Detroit Police about the investigation into the death of a body found in an abandoned building in the city.  Detroit Police say the victim had been murdered and his identity was unknown, but a pickup truck found parked near the crime scene was registered to a Marquette resident.  Marquette Police attempted to contact the owner of the pickup truck, but due to the owner being out of the area on a fishing trip, the owner was not located until Sunday.  The owner of the truck was able to give police a name of the person who had borrowed the truck. Family members confirmed the identity of the victim yesterday as 21-year-old Antone Adrian Ramos.  He had borrowed the pickup last week.  Marquette Police are working with Detroit Police on the investigation and anyone with any information related to this case is asked to call them at 228-0400.

Things are back to normal at the Ambassador Bridge today, after a bomb threat shut down the international crossing between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario for several hours last night.  Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens says a 9-1-1 call came in from the U.S. Side around 7:20 p.m. Pertaining to a bomb on the international bridge.  The caller said a bomb would go off in 10 minutes along the busy freight crossing prompting authorities in both cities to halt all truck and car traffic across the bridge.  Police Inspector Don Johnson says the span was reopened around 1 a.m. today after security sweeps failed to turn up any incendiary devices.  The closing came four days after a bomb threat to police in Windsor led to a four-hour closing of the Detroit-Windsor tunnel, the other crossing between the border cities.  No bomb was found in either case.

Design elements will focus on Leonardo da Vinci drawings and engineering sketches.

Organizers of the 2nd Annual UP Celebrity Golf Classic for the Beacon House are reporting a very successful event this year.  This year’s two-day event raised over $108,000. The goal was to double the amount raised at the very successful Inaugural Event last year by adding the Heritage Course to the Greywalls golf outing, and increasing the number of event sponsors to supplement the operations of the hospitality house serving people from across the Upper Peninsula when they come to Marquette area for medical care.  The net amount raised by the golf event is equivalent of about one-third of Beacon House annual operating funds needed for the year. Guest contributions should make up another one-third, and other fundraising efforts, if as successful, will make up the balance needed to run the operation annually.
