Alger County Man Arraigned on Forgery and Embezzlement Charges

Alger country man faces up to 28 years in prison for forgery and embezzlement

The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department worked with Michigan State Police on the case

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An Alger County man was arraigned yesterday on charges connected to the embezzlement of funds from the Manistique Moose Lodge.

56-year-old Ray Hayford of Wetmore was arraigned in 93rd District Court on four counts of forgery and one count of embezzlement of more than $1000 but less than $20,000. He faces up to 14 years behind bars for each count of forgery plus a maximum of 10 years in prison for the embezzlement charge.

Hayford is lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail. He was arrested after a joint investigation by the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police from the Manistique Detachment.
