Senator Debbie Stabenow Hosts Farm Bill Discussion In Marquette, MI

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow held a roundtable discussion session today in Marquette with community leaders to discuss the impact of Farm Bill reforms on the region.

Stabenow, Chair of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, hosted the session at Northern Michigan University to urge passage of the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. The current Farm Bill expires on September 30th.

Stabenow authored the five-year Farm Bill, which passed the Senate with a strong bipartisan vote, but has not yet been taken up by the House.

If Congress does not act by the deadline, the current Farm Bill will expire and the country will revert back to 1940s agriculture policy with an antiquated system of subsidies and price supports born in the depression-era.
