OWI Charges on Michigan State Police Post Commander Dropped
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Drunk driving charges, against a Michigan State Police Post Commander arrested last summer in the eastern U.P., have been dropped.
The case against Lt. William Smith was dismissed yesterday in Chippewa County court after the judge ruled the test used to determine Smith’s blood alcohol level was flawed and could not be used in court.
Smith was arrested in Sault Ste. Marie in July on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated following a traffic crash involving a personal vehicle.
Smith was appointed commander of the Gladstone post in April. He has been suspended with pay since his arrest.
