Stupak Speaking Out Against Department of Health and Human Services
MARQUETTE, MI — (Great Lakes Radio News) – Former Michigan Congressman Bart Stupak is speaking out against the Department of Health and Human Services mandate that requires employer health plans to fund free contraceptive and abortion-inducing drugs under the Affordable Care Act regardless of the religious objections of employers.
A last minute deal between Stupak and President Obama to include an Executive Order preventing federally funded abortions was instrumental in the passage of the controversial health care bill in 2010.
At a panel discussion in North Carolina on Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention by Democrats for Life, Stupak told the gathering that the mandate is illegal. However, during the panel discussion, Stupak also said he has no regrets supporting the health care bill.
