MARQUETTE, MI — (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan has cut K-12 education funding deeper than 28 other states, according to a new report from the Washington, D.C. based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

The report shows that, since 2008, Michigan cut K-12 funding 8.8 percent or $542 per pupil, based on unadjusted numbers. However, seventeen other states made deeper cuts than Michigan, cutting per-student funding by more than 10 percent from 2008 levels.

Three states, Arizona, Alabama, and Oklahoma slashed K-12 funding more than 20 percent.  Only 13 states increased K-12 funding over that same period.

North Dakota had the biggest spike, increasing its funding by 28.2 percent.
