Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 110th District State Representative Scott Dianda has introduced a resolution calling for an investigation into impacts of the so-called “dark store” tax methodology.

Dianda says the Governor and State Tax Commission should conduct a statewide study on the current and future effects of the method.

Currently, big-box retailers and others have used the loophole to convince the State Tax Tribunal to lower their property values and taxes, forcing local governments to refund overpaid revenue.

Those refunds of hundreds of thousands of dollars forces the locals to reduce municipal services.

The Calumet Democrat says the study is needed to increase awareness of the problem and help to find a solution.
