Fourth Consecutive Monthly Increase for Michigan’s Unemployment Rate
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan’s unemployment rate increased by four-tenths of a percentage point in August to 9.4 percent, the fourth consecutive monthly increase.
According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, total employment declined by 18,000 last month, as the total number of unemployed rose by 16,000 resulting in little change to the state’s labor force.
Michigan’s August unemployment rate is the highest for the state since the November 2011 rate of 9.6 percent. The jobless rate last month was one percentage point below the state’s August 2011 rate of 10.4 percent.
The national unemployment rate in August was 8.1 percent.
