Michigan’s Unemployment Rates Decreased
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates decreased in all of Michigan’s 17 major labor market areas in August according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
A spokesman says regional jobless rates fell in August mostly due to seasonal labor force reductions adding that fewer unemployed workers actively sought employment while summer and seasonal hiring waned from the July peak.
The Ann Arbor area had the state’s lowest jobless rate last month at 5.9 percent while the metro Detroit area had the highest at 10.9 percent.
The rate for the period in the U.P. was 8.4 percent while the rate in Marquette County was 7.9 percent. Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August was 9.4 percent.
