Investigation into the drug smuggling attempt at the Marquette Prison continues

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Authorities are continuing the investigation into an attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into Marquette Branch Prison.

State Police from the Negaunee Post and correction department officials say a woman attempted to throw a package containing illegal drugs over a fence to an inmate in a lower security area of the prison between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday.

The woman was arrested shortly afterwards in the parking lot of a nearby hotel.  Three men who were with the woman in a vehicle in the lot were also taken into custody.  The cell of the inmate involved was searched by corrections officers and other suspected drugs were found.

No names are being released as the investigation continues.
