Schoolcraft County Man Arraigned on Several Charges Involving Assault of Deputy

Hiawatha Township man after assaulting a deputy

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Schoolcraft County man has been arraigned on a series of charges in connection with the alleged assault of a County Sheriff’s Deputy.

64-year-old Larry Kouw of County Road 440 in Hiawatha Township was arraigned yesterday on one count of assault, felony resisting and obstructing causing injury, and felony resisting and obstructing.

The charges came after deputies were called to Kouw’s residence late Wednesday afternoon for a neighbor dispute.  Upon investigation, deputies determined an assault had occurred at the scene.

As authorities approached Kouw, he was reportedly agitated and hostile and he struck a Deputy.  Kouw was subdued with pepper spray and arrested.

He is also facing a charge of violating his parole, which will be handled separately.
