MDOT Reopened US 2 to Iron River After Completeing Reconstruction Project

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan Department of Transportation reopened US-2 to traffic in Iron River yesterday, completing the major reconstruction project 10 days ahead of schedule.

The project included reconstruction of US-2 through the city, from Ninth Street to River Street, and M-189 from Genesee Street to US-2.

Total cost for the project was $2.2 million.  As part of the project, the city also upgraded portions of its water main and sanitary sewer system in the construction area. Phone lines, a gas main, power poles and street lighting also were upgraded during construction.

The project required multiple detours on city streets during construction and MDOT is advising motorists to pay special attention to the signs, especially stop signs, along the detour routes, as they will return to their original configuration.
