Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Marquette business has been recognized by Governor Rick Snyder for it’s energy efficiency.
The Marquette Food Co-op won the first annual Governor’s Energy Excellence Award for Best Commercial Project for the construction of their new store 502 W. Washington Street.
The Co-op uses mostly LED lighting on timers and motion sensors, high efficiency refrigeration, has two gray water systems for irrigation and flushing toilets, and reclaims waste heat from refrigeration to heat water.
The Co-op tripled their facility’s size from their previous location but have only increased energy usage by one third.
