Ishpeming Mayor Declared Eric Dompierre Day Today
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –Today is Eric Dompierre Day in Ishpeming.
As declared by Ishpeming Mayor Pat Scanlon, the day honors Eric and his last regular season game on the Ishpeming High School Varsity Football team.
The 19-year-old senior with Down syndrome recently was granted a waiver by the Michigan High School Athletic Association to play high school football and basketball although rules said he was too old.
Following a strongly supported public effort by Eric’s family, the MHSAA voted to approve waivers in certain circumstances.
The game will be played at Gwinn High School at 7:30 p.m.
