Telephone scam MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Chocolay Township Police are warning residents and business owners of an apparent telephone scam making its way around the community.

Police received notice of a call made to a local business by a man who said he was with “Yellow Pages On-line” and the man told the business owner he owed $1500 because the business had been listed on the site.

When the business owner pressed the caller and asked some further questions, the caller hung up.

Police are reminding residents that the Yellow Pages offers on-line business listings free of charge and to simply hang up if you receive such a call.

One Response to Police Warning of Telephone Scam

  1. Thanks for sharing! I did read about this scam at http://www.callercenter.com and I’m glad to be made aware of such schemes since I own a business, too. I have a restaurant and received a few scams calls. Well, these crooks can call all they want but I ain’t falling for their trick. I know better.
