MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Tonight is considered to be the “biggest bar night of the year,” and that’s just one reason why police in Michigan are beefing up patrols in many areas for the holiday weekend.
Officers from nearly 100 agencies in 20 counties will use the patrols, beginning tonight, to make sure motorists are driving safe and sober throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Lynn Sutfin, of the State Office of Highway Safety Planning, says the concern is mostly for those college kids home for the holiday who go out with friends, and they urge responsible use of alcohol.
Seven people were killed on Michigan roadways, during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The extra patrols will run through Sunday night.
