Wakefield Man Arrested for Going Through Dumpsters at Area School

Wakefield man arrested MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)State Police at the Wakefield Post have arrested a man for rummaging through dumpsters at an area school.

Troopers were called to the Wakefield/Marinesco school on Wednesday the 20th, on a report of the man going through the dumpsters on the school’s campus.

Investigation identified the 64-year-old Wakefield man as a registered sex offender who was digging through the dumpsters on a weekly basis searching for clothing and notes from the students.

An Arrest warrant was obtained on Wednesday and the man was arrested at his home without incident.  He was lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of being a registered sex offender loitering withing a student safety zone.

He is being held on $1,000 cash bond.  A subsequent conviction would be a felony punishable by two years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
