Ford Motor Company’s MPG Claims Being Questioned
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Ford Motor Company’s claim of 47-miles per gallon for the new C-Max hybrid and Fusion Hybrid is being questioned by owners and a national magazine.
“Consumer Reports” says their tests found the best fuel mileage was 37-miles-per gallon for the C-Max and 39 mpg for the Fusion. Officials with the Environmental Protection Agency say their results and actual miles of owners vary due to driving styles.
However, Ford officials say while the magazine could not achieve the EPA mileage, customers have written they have surpassed those mileage estimates. Ford is also recalling about 19,000 of the brand-new Fusions to fix defective headlights.
The Dearborn auotmaker says reflectors in the low-beam lights on the 2013 Fusions can become hazy over time and reduce the brightness. It’s the second recall in a week for the Fusion and the sixth recall of a new Ford vehicle in the past five months.
The company will notify owners by mail later this month and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly for free. The recall is expected to begin today.
