Marquette Projects Included in Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Recommendations

U.P._News_UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Two projects in Marquette County are included in The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund recommendations for recreation development and land acquisition.

The agency’s board of trustees recently recommended to the Michigan Legislature that 76 recreation development projects and land acquisitions totaling 23.5 million dollars be funded in 2013.

Included in the recommendations is $281,000 to the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority for development of a 4.8 mile section of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail in Tilden Township that would provide a continuous nearly 32-mile-long trail from Kawbawgam Junction to Chocolay Township to Ely Township.

Also approved is $88,800 to the City of Marquette to install permanent restrooms at McCarty’s Cove. Several other projects across the U.P. have been recommended for funding in the package.

The Trust Fund board’s recommendations will go to the Michigan Legislature for review as part of the appropriations process. The Legislature then forwards a bill to the governor for his approval.
