Governor Snyder vetos gun billMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Governor Rick Snyder has vetoed legislation that would allow properly trained and licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons into schools, churches and other places where they’re currently disallowed.

The bill would have also banned gun owners from carrying their weapon openly in these areas, but Snyder has been concerned about the inability of local schools to ban all weapons from their grounds if they want.

While the governor rejected the Senate bill, he did sign two other bills that streamline the process for handgun purchases and eliminate restrictions on interstate rifle and shotgun transactions to states contiguous to Michigan.

Snyder’s decision comes less than a week after 20 children and six adults were gunned down in a Connecticut elementary school.

The veto is the seventh of his term.
