Unemployment Workers in Michigan Can Claim Benefits Over Holiday
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Unemployed workers in Michigan can still claim their jobless benefits even though state offices are closed for Christmas and will be closed again next week for the New Year’s holiday.
The Unemployment Insurance Agency says Michigan’s automated response voice interactive network, known as MARVIN, will be available throughout the holiday period. Unemployed workers claiming benefits in Michigan must contact MARVIN by telephone or online once every two weeks to certify that they are unemployed and meet the eligibility requirements for jobless benefits.
Officials say because of the holidays, there may be a one or two day delay before the benefits are either directly deposited into the bank accounts or loaded onto the debit cards of unemployed workers.
