More Michigan Residents Traveling This Holiday Season
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Triple A of Michigan says an estimated 2.9 million Michigan residents are traveling 50 miles or more from home over this Christmas holiday.
The numbers show a slight increase over last year and come from Triple A’s latest travel survey. Nationwide, Triple A says 93.3 million Americans are traveling, up 1.6 percent from a year ago.
The year-end holiday period is the longest holiday travel season of the year, allowing residents time to visit family or enjoy vacations. Triple defines this year’s holiday travel season as running from last Saturday to Tuesday, January 1.
91 percent of Michigan residents are traveling by using personal motor vehicles this year. Seven percent are flying, while the rest are traveling by bus or train.
