Police Reporting Uneventful New Year

State Police saying uneventful New YearsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Marquette and Alger County authorities are reporting a relatively quiet New Year’s Eve around the region.

The Marquette City Police say the annual downtown ball drop was uneventful with no reported arrests or incidents.  Police say the crowd for the event was estimated at about 4,000 to 5,000 people.  Some drunk and disorderly arrests and other minor incidents were reported in some areas, but overall it was a quiet night.

State Police at regional dispatch in Negaunee Township say good weather helped in keeping roads clear and kept accidents at a minimum.  Troopers also say that people are heeding the message of not drinking and driving and are using designated drivers or are staying home to celebrate the New Year.
