Early Morning Fire in Escanaba

Escanaba Public Safety responds to fireMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Escanaba Public Safety officials are reporting an early morning fire today that severely damaged a residence in Escanaba.

The fire was reported around 12:30 this morning in the chimney of a house at 1701 5th Avenue South.  The occupants of the home were able to get out safely and firefighters battled the flames for about 30 minutes before getting the fire under control.

They were able to save the structure although there was extensive fire, smoke and water damage. There were were no injuries reported.

The family was put up in an area hotel thanks to the Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
