Houghton, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The suspect in a racially-motivated social media threat last week at Michigan Tech may have charges against him dropped.

Reports say 21-year-old Matthew Schultz, of Norway, Michigan, was arraigned today in 97th District Court on a charge of disturbing the peace for a post threatening the lives of African American students on the Houghton campus.

The Houghton County Prosecutor is, however, considering dropping the charge due to miscommunication about the case between the Prosecutor’s Office and MTU.

Bond for Schultz, who is a student at the university, was continued and he faces a pretrial hearing in two weeks.
