Michigan Drunk Driving Crackdown Stats from Holiday Period

    Crackdown over holiday period successful for Michigan State PoliceMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)State Police say they arrested more than 100 drunk drivers during a special enforcement period over the New Year’s holiday in Michigan.

    Officers arrested 103 drunk drivings during the special drunk driving crackdown in 22 counties between December 27 and January 1, including 30 drivers who were arrested for having a blood-alcohol content of 0.17 or higher, under Michigan’s high BAC law.

    Preliminary figures show that 12 people died in traffic crashes over the New Year’s holiday in Michigan, alcohol was involved in six of those crashes and four victims were not wearing seat belts, compared with 14 deaths over the same period last year, where alcohol was involved in five.

    Officers also made 3,106 traffic stops during the New Years period, where they issued 18 seat belt and child restraint citations, 209 speeding tickets and 606 tickets for other traffic violations. In addition, 50 fugitives were arrested and 156 uninsured motorists were cited.
