Unemployment Rates Rise for December

Unemployment rate up in MichiganMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates rose in all of Michigan’s 17 major labor market areas in December.

According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, total employment levels decreased in most regions over the month, while labor force levels increased in the majority of areas.

The Ann Arbor area had the state’s lowest jobless rate last month at 5.1 percent while Northeast Lower Michigan had the highest at 12.1 percent. The rate for the period in the U.P. was 9.4 percent while Marquette County had a rate of 7.3 percent.

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in December was 8.9 percent.
