Rep. Kivela Introduces Meth Legislation
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 109th District State Representative John Kivela will introduce legislation next week aimed at stopping methamphetamine production in Michigan.
Kivela says his legislation would make it illegal to purchase any medications containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine without a valid doctor’s prescription. The intent is to make it harder for the drug manufacturers to access a key ingredient needed for production of meth.
The Marquette Democrat says he modeled the legislation after similar measures in Oregon and Mississippi. Kivela says the number of meth lab incidents has been drastically reduced since the laws were enacted in both states.
