Winter Weather Advisory for Central U.P.

Winter weather advisory in effect for central U.P. MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the central U.P. until 1:00 a.m. tomorrow.

The National Weather Service Office in Negaunee Township says the advisory is for snow and blowing snow that may effect visibilities due to a combination of falling and blowing snow.

The snow will increase during the afternoon hours and moderate to heavy snow will continue through the overnight hours tonight. Expect snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches today, with an additional half inch to 3 inches this evening. Look for the greatest amounts in the higher terrain from Negaunee to Skandia.

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph out of the north are expected through the course of the day.  Roads will become snow covered and slippery. Areas of blowing and drifting snow will also make driving difficult.
