Two Snowmobile Accidents in Keweenaw County

Two snowmobile accident in Keweenaw countyMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Authorities responded to two separate snowmobile accidents in Keweenaw County yesterday.

The first accident was reported just before noon on Trail No. 151, about a mile south of Eagle River in Houghton Township. The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department says 44-year-old Chad Geer of Logansport, Indiana, was following a group of snowmobiles when he lost sight of the trail due to blowing snow caused by the other machines. Geer’s machine went off the trail and hit some trees. Geer was taken to Aspirus Keewenaw Hospital with major injuries to his left leg.

The second accident happened around 12:30 p.m. in Grant Township at Bete Gris Road and Sand Point Road. 55-year-old Colleen Scheitz of Port Barrington, Illinois, was ejected from her snowmobile when it slid on some ice and then hit bare pavement.  She was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital with reported head and hip injuries.
