MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Upper Michigan Senator Tom Casperson has joined with several of his colleagues to form the Legislative Waterways Caucus in Lansing.

The group is planning to introduce legislation aimed at enhancing Michigan waters. The bipartisan caucus, made up of legislators from both chambers, will be a forum for a variety of issues, such as invasive species, dredging, low lake levels, tourism and recreation.

Casperson says he is also continuing his efforts from last term to ensure Michigan waterways remain navigable, and has now engaged the legislative caucus to join with him to implement strategies to that effect.

Legislation will be introduced in the coming weeks and will be referred to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources, Environment and Great Lakes, chaired by Casperson.
