Commander of Lower Michigan Drug Team Sentenced

Commander of Narcotics team sentencedMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The former commander of the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team in Northeast Lower Michigan will not spend time in jail for pocketing money intended to make drug deals.

Lt. Delmer Putnam plead guilty in December to a reduced charge of willful neglect of duty by a public officer. He was sentenced Monday in 88th District Court In Alpena. Putnam admitted he was using funds that belonged to HUNT for his personal use in late 2011 and early 2012.

As part of a plea agreement, he was put on one year probation, ordered to pay $1,400 in restitution along with court costs and fines, and perform 200 hours of community service.

Putnam must also resign from the State Police and surrender his law enforcement licensing and certifications.
