Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Home Health Care workers will no longer see union dues withheld from their subsidy checks from the state.

Angela Mincuci of the Department of Community Health says the contract between the department and the SEIU Healthcare Michigan expired on February 28, so no payments made after that date will have union dues withheld.

Last year, Governor Rick Snyder signed an act declaring that the home health workers were not state employees and could not be organized as such.  The move effectively disbanded the union created under the Granholm administration to organize the home health workers through an interlocal agreement under the Michigan Quality Community Care Council.
