The House Appropriations committee approved the public harbor spending at 49 locations statewide Wednesday morning.  State House Republican Joe Haveman calls it a “necessary step to keep the economic recovery going strong in Michigan’s coastal communities.”
The projects will remove sediment from the bottom of waterways plagued by low levels which have not been high enough in some spots for proper water access. The low levels have hampered both business-related shipping and recreational boating.
The spending bill now goes to the full House.
