Michigan Legislature Looking to Spend $21 Million on Dredging
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –
The Michigan Legislature is moving quickly in the effort to spend 21 million state dollars on emergency dredging in Michigan waterways.
The House Appropriations committee approved the public harbor spending at 49 locations statewide Wednesday morning. State House Republican Joe Haveman calls it a “necessary step to keep the economic recovery going strong in Michigan’s coastal communities.”
The projects will remove sediment from the bottom of waterways plagued by low levels which have not been high enough in some spots for proper water access. The low levels have hampered both business-related shipping and recreational boating.
The spending bill now goes to the full House.
