MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)110th District State Representative Scott Dianda and 109th District Representative John Kivela are supporting legislation introduced in the House Committee on Natural Resources changing the DEQ’s dredging permit process.

The legislation reduces the permit fee, from the current $1500 to $50, for dredging material from Great Lakes and inland lakes, respectively. The projects would need to be over 10,000 cubic yards and be more than 90 percent sand to qualify for the fee reduction.

The original version of the legislation would have slashed it to $500, but amendments were adopted to further reduce the fee. The package of bills now moves to the Senate for consideration.
