Increased Police Patrols Continue

    Great Lakes Radio NewsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Even though Saint Patrick’s Day is behind us, police across the state continue an extra effort to combat drunk driving in Michigan.

    The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, says officers from 155 agencies in 26 counties will remain on patrol through Monday, April 8, in response to a growing number of parties surrounding the NCAA basketball tournament and spring break vacations from high schools and colleges.

    Police made nearly 2,500 arrests for drunk driving in Michigan during the same period last year, with 789 of those drivers charged under the state’s high blood-alcohol-content law.
