Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Michigan has the fifth-oldest system of iron gas mains in the country, and the largest utilities in the state have replaced less than 15-percent of the pipelines over the past ten years.

The “Detroit Free Press” reports the pipelines pose a huge threat of leaks, and in many cases, are already leaking.

The Michigan Public Service Commission has been pushing Utilities to pick up the pace of replacing the old pipelines, but they have cited costs to themselves and their customers as reasons for not moving faster.
