St. Ignace, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Two downstate men have been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs and cell phones into the Kinross Correctional Facility.

20-year-old Darryl Watkins and 22 year-old Dario Boyd, both of Detroit, were arraigned in Chippewa County yesterday on charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Furnishing Contraband into a Prison.

They were arrested after an investigation into containers found outside of the prison fence that contained suspected marijuana and cell phones.

A corrections officer noticed a suspicious vehicle outside of the prison on Tuesday morning and the suspects were apprehended at the Mackinac Bridge.

Watkins’s bond was set at $2,000 dollars and Boyd’s bond was set at $10,000 dollars due to being a habitual offender.

Both men are currently lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.
