Ice on Munising Bay No Longer Safe

Great Lakes Radio News UpdatesMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The Alger County Sheriff’s Department is notifying the public that ice conditions are rapidly deteriorating on Munising Bay.

In a statement released today, the Sheriff’s Department is asking people who may be planning to go snowmobiling or ice fishing on the bay to use caution and stay off of the ice.  They add that a fishing tug is breaking through the ice on the West Channel and there will be open water there after today.

The department says that the ice has been weakening due to the recent rainfall in the area.
