Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The State Senate Natural Resources, Environment and Great Lakes Committee has approved a measure allowing the Natural Resources Commission to add species to the game list and establish hunting seasons in the state.

If Senate Bill 288 becomes law, it would allow the NRC to designate a species as a game animal.

Some critics of the bill say it is a preemptive strike against a ballot campaign aimed at preventing a wolf hunt. Critics say the measure, introduced by State Senator Tom Casperson of Escanaba, eventually could allow wolf hunting even if voters overturn the state law that designated the wolf as a game species.
