Winter Storm Warning in Effect for U.P.

Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the central U.P. from 7 p.m. tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday.

Heavy, wet snow will arrive tonight and continue through Friday evening. The heaviest snow will fall tonight into tomorrow morning. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible.

Accumulations of 7 to 11 inches are expected across Marquette County through tomorrow. Locally higher amounts approaching 14 inches are possible over the higher terrain areas.

Northeast winds gusting to 30 mph will also create areas of blowing and drifting snow, especially close to Lake Superior. Roads will become snow covered and hazardous for travel tonight into Friday with visibility reduced to less than one-half mile at times.
