No State Employees To Lose Jobs, Sequestration Has Other Effects
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – While the federal sequestration has resulted in reduced funding to states, the State Budget Office in Lansing has announced that there will not be any layoffs of state workers from the impasse.
However it won’t mean there are no negative effects. The state says it reached the conclusion following a program-by-program analysis that resulted in estimated program cuts of just over $150 million in fiscal years 2013 and 2014.
The Snyder administration does say there will be negative effects from the sequestration. It says the annual Department of Human Service allowance for children’s clothing, totaling $137 per child, will be eliminated.
