Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)There could be extra security on the Mackinac Bridge for the Labor Day walk due to this week’s bombings of the Boston Marathon.

The “Petoskey News” reports Mackinaw City Police Chief Patrick Wyman started thinking of possible upgrades to security within minutes of learning of the blasts. He says the start and finish lines on the bridge will likely have added security, and they’ve had more officers around the Mighty Mac ever since the September 11 attacks a dozen years ago.

In a related story, authorities plan to beef up security this weekend during the Lansing marathon. The Lansing Marathon will be held Sunday and roughly 2,000 runners and 4,000 spectators are expected to be on hand.

Police say the increased security will be visible, however there will also be undercover officers blending in with the crowds.
