Winter Storm Watch, Winter Storm Warning for U.P.

Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The National Weather Service in Negaunee has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Marquette and Baraga Counties and a Winter Storm Warning for the western U.P. in effect from this evening through tomorrow evening.

Scattered rain and snow will change over to wet and heavy snow later tonight and snow may fall heavy at times on Friday.  Total snowfall of 6 inches or more may occur later tonight through Friday across Marquette county, with up to 10 inches over the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Northwest winds gusting to 40 mph tomorrow will lead to blowing and drifting of snow. Roads may become snow covered late tonight and tomorrow, leading to difficult travel in some areas.

Also, strong winds combined with the heavy wet snow may result in sporadic power outages tomorrow.
