Floods Worsen in Lower Michigan

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Flooding continues to affect significant parts of lower Michigan today, as overflowing rivers continue to rise.

    The problem was worsened by severe thunderstorms moving through the region on Thursday. Thousands lost power in southeastern Michigan, and many residents continue to be in the dark.

    In Grand Rapids, five children and an adult were rescued after, their car stalled in a flooded area. A woman taking pictures of the flood teamed with a police officer and a firefighter to carry everyone to safety.

    Grand Rapids officials are bracing for historic flooding on the Grand River. The National Weather Service says Monday, the river may crest six feet above flood stage near the city.
