Winter Storm Warning, Winter Weather Advisory for U.P.

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The National Weather Service in Negaunee says significant winter weather is hitting the northern half of the Upper Peninsula today.

    A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the western U.P. until 2 a.m. tomorrow while a Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the central and eastern U.P. until 2 a.m. Saturday.

    A mix of rain, snow and strong winds will spread across the region by this evening, with blizzard conditions over the Keweenaw Peninsula. Significant travel disruptions along with potential power outages are expected with this storm, especially over the western U.P. and the Keweenaw Peninsula where snowfall totals over a foot are expected.

    Expect blustery conditions, with northwest winds at 20 to 25 mph, gusting up to 40 to 50 mph. The snow and strong winds will diminish later tonight.
