Police Investigate Reported Overdoes of Three Teenage Girls

Great Lakes Radio News UpdatesMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Marquette City Police investigated the reported overdose of three girls, ages 13 and 14, over the weekend.

Police were called to the MGH ER around 11:45 Friday night on a report of a 13-year-old girl who had overdosed on over the counter cold medicine. Police say the girl and three of her friends had purchased the medicine and had taken numerous pills before attending a dance.

The girl had become ill and was vomiting and showing other serious symptoms. Officers contacted the other girls and their parents and all were taken to the ER. All three girls were admitted and one was placed in the ICU.

Police say over the counter cold medications are often used as recreational drugs.  Many of the meds are acetaminophen based and large doses can be severely harmful to the body, especially the liver.

No names are being released and police are not pursuing any criminal charges in this case.
