NMU Remembering Two Administrators This Week

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The Northern Michigan University community is remembering two popular administrators who passed away in the last week.

    William Vandament, the 10th president of NMU who served from 1991-1997, died Saturday at his home in Signal Hill, California at the age of 81.

    Ken Godfrey, former athletic director, died Wednesday in Marquette at the age of 64 following a long illness. Godfrey spent over 32 years at NMU. He started as a grad assistant in 1978 and was the Special Assistant to the President/Athletic Director through May of 2011.

    Vandament came to NMU in June 1991 as interim president and was asked by the Board of Trustees to become full-time president in the spring of 1992. No services are planned for Vandament and his family would appreciate contributions to the William and Margery Vandament Endowment Fund, through the NMU Foundation.

    Visitation for Godfrey is today at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette from noon to 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in the church.

    Friends of Godfrey are asked to contribute to the Shirley Godfrey Memorial Scholarship through the NMU Foundation.
