Over 400 Arrested in Drunk Driving Crackdown
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police say more than 400 motorists were arrested for drunk driving during a recent statewide crackdown.
Law enforcement officers from 155 agencies in 26 counties arrested 433 motorists for drunk driving during the three-week crackdown from March 13 to April 8.
Of those arrested, 72 were charged under the state’s high blood alcohol content law with a BAC of .17 or higher. This year’s total is an increase from the 405 drunk driving arrests made during a similar enforcement effort in 2012.
The stepped-up enforcement period included the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, high school and college spring break periods and St. Patrick’s Day.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning coordinated the effort, which was funded with federal highway safety grants.
